A Life Well Lived

My sweet Granny passed away last Wednesday. She was 93 years old.

Granny was the most practical and frugal person I have ever known, so it was so very fitting that she went on a day when the family was already headed home to Baker--so that we didn't have to make a special trip home.

For the past four or five years Granny had been suffering from severe dementia, and so, while a great loss to all of us, her passing was a merciful end to her long and very fruitful life.

She was the kind of woman they just don't make any more. She made me sandwiches from bologna fried in ketchup. She patched the worn feet on my Natalie doll's feet with my Grandaddy's old socks. She cut apart cereal boxes and used the backside to write her grocery lists on. She ate Total for breakfast every morning. She allowed no "filthy" language in her house--not even a "darn." She made the best chicken and dumplings in the world.

I really lost my grandmother a long time ago, but now she is gone from this Earth and the world just won't be the same. But I'm taking comfort in the fact that she is in Heaven with my Dad, my Grandaddy and my brother.

She was the matriarch of our big and boisterous family, and she was my last remaining grandparent. I will miss her.

Two Years!

We recently took a second anniversary trip to San Francisco. Trip to the West Coast in four days--not a good idea. But we had a great time. Ate a lot of great food and took the ferry to Sausalito on our anniversary--that was the highlight of the trip for me (excepting the beautiful pearl earrings B bought me for my birthday--thank you, husband!).

We stayed at the Renaissance Stanford Court which was....eh. Had a fabulous anniversary dinner at Boulevard--which mostly lived up to its reputation--and the best cappucino ever at Poggio in Sausalito. The dim sum in SF is just out of this world--I was in love. All in all it was a fantastic trip. We were pooped out by the time we made it back to Nashville--but totally worth it.
